Cyclonopedia
Cyclonopedia is a book by Reza Negarestani presenting the Middle East as a sentient entity[1], with oil as a chthonic force. It draws on Deleuzian philosophy[2], Hyperstition[3], Lovecraftian horror[4], and Tellurian power[2].
R.N. essentially describes an "artificial" swarm intelligence formed from the human collective.
Haz described Infrared thus:[5]
"It's like a tornado. It's like Cyclonopedia. There's this Middle Eastern chaos that I fuck with. This Islamic way of doing things... whipping people into a frenzy of mobilization based on an esoteric conviction and just seeing how the swarm dynamics play out... The Islamic method of rule is like constant cyclical Cyclonopedia tornado chaos that emerges into, or is guided by, a single center. One center and then a horde of equals. Very little hierarchy... an artificial swarm intelligence... out of the chaos an emergent order emerges."
The enemy operates similarly:[6]
"What Resa Negarestani describes in Cyclonopedia — a complete kind of swarm intelligence. There's no one behind anything... you can only discern patterns in an impersonal way, in terms of higher forces."
