Shanghai

Shanghai is the most cosmopolitan city in mainland China, due to its present status in international trade and past history of being carved up by Western imperialists during the Century of Humiliation. Shanghai is one of the few cities in China (alongside Hong Kong and Taipei) to host Pride parades and LGBTQ organizations.

Shanghai has experienced rapid development under the Dengist Reform and Opening Up since Pudong district became the sixth Special Economic Zone in 1990.
