Jesus Christ (Isa ibn Maryam in Islam; ישוע/Yeshua historically) is the central figure of Christianity and a major prophet in Islam.

Historical-critical view

Jesus of Nazareth (c. 4 BCE – c. 33 CE) preached in Roman-occupied Judea. His message combined imminent apocalyptic expectation with radical social teaching: blessing of the poor, condemnation of wealth ("it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle..."), the cleansing of the Temple money-changers, and the Lord's Prayer's "forgive us our debts." He was executed by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate — a Roman punishment for sedition, indicating the political character of his movement.

Christian doctrine

Chalcedonian Christianity confesses Jesus as fully God and fully man, crucified dead and risen, the second person of the Trinity.

Islamic view

Islam reveres Jesus as a great prophet and Messiah, born miraculously of the Virgin Mary (Qur'an 19), who performed miracles by God's permission and was raised to heaven — but denies the crucifixion-as-death and divine sonship (Qur'an 4:157, 112).

Infrared's usage

Haz Al-Din has presented Christ as a figure whose genuine teaching — anti-usury, anti-rich, communitarian — was domesticated by Rome into imperial ideology, and whose recovery is part of the communist appropriation of religious heritage (see Communism is Islam, Moses, Abraham).
