2018 Douma Chemical Attacks
Appearance
""Douma was debated by Haz directly — the canister-forensics exchange in the Haz vs Ellen | InfraredShow Debate.
From that debate
Haz pressed the physical impossibility of the official narrative:
- The canister found on the roof "conveniently fell right on this hole" — "you think the canister created the hole? Yeah, of course, like that's exactly what that would look like, right? So what does this picture prove exactly?"
- On the damage pattern: "look at the scale of damage — it's like an exact hole... concrete is weaker than rebar; that's why rebar reinforces concrete. We don't use concrete to reinforce rebar."
- And the ground truth trumping armchair forensics: "None of it matters, because the doctor who was on the ground in Douma [testified differently]..."
The position
Haz treated the Douma canister photos as stage-managed evidence — consistent with his broader OPCW coverage (the Jackson Hinkle debate on the OPCW report, Haz reacts to Vaush vs Jackson) and the Iraq-WMD precedent: unverifiable atrocity claims, inspectors overruled, strike first. Douma is the case where the physical evidence itself — a cylinder resting neatly on a rebar-reinforced roof hole — betrays the story (OPCW, Scott Ritter, Waging Peace book).
