On the Arrest of Chairman Omali Yeshitela
The American Student Union condemns this flagrant political repression of the African Peoples Socialist Party (APSP) and the Uhuru Movement.
Today, Chairman Omali Yeshitela was arrested on groundless charges of acting as a “foreign agent”. The US government has a long and bloody track record of repressing Black revolutionaries and accusing them of espionage such as Malcolm X, MLK Jr, Fred Hampton, and others.
The APSP and the Uhuru Movement have the right to express their beliefs, organize, run for elections, and assemble without government interference, as specified within the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.
This brutal attack on Black Americans and political organizers must come to an end.
We, the American Student Union demand the following:
The immediate release of Omali Yeshitela and all political prisoners currently held in custody.
All property seized by the FBI and other agencies must be returned to the APSP
The damages sustained by these organizations must be compensated for by the FBI.
The disbandment of the FBI’s ongoing counterintelligence programs targeting American citizens.
